Employing an Integrated Crop Management approach, crops in his care are monitored weekly for pests, diseases and weeds. Clients are advised on appropriate agrochemical and fertiliser management, harvesting, storing and marketing of crops. Improving farm management has been shown to produce benefits both in terms of maximising agricultural production and in longer term environmental protection.  

Commercial knowledge and practical farming experience combine to allow Alan the ability to provide a unique personal approach to contemporary arable production in which compliance with current legislation and protocols can be monitored with empathy for the realities of their implementation.

Effective management depends on information, whether it is about new chemicals, new varieties or new problems and how to manage them. Close contact is maintained with agrochemical manufacturers and others to gain vital information as well as with local SEERAD officers to keep up to date with latest subsidy information.
